I guess in the age of NO talent movie stars, writters that love violence and Hollywood being a distructive force for morality this movie doesn’t surprise me. Nor will it surprise you. It’s Hollywood telling the same old story over and over again but each time with a little more violence. As most educated people know this kind of thing just shows the rest of the world what kind of people we really are. They see everything from the eyes of the media and Hollywood. I wait for the fall of Hollywood. The talent just doesn’t exist anymore. The time of good Hollywood stars, music scores, writers, directors, costume designers and now a thing of the past. Save yourself money and not go which would be the political correct thing to do as far as i’m concerned.

Singleton returns to the ‘hood. This time to Detroit to seek revenge for a fallen mother. To his credit, he tries to cross racial lines by coming up with four foster brothers, two black, two white, and the ex-hippie white mama who raised them. He tries to blend action with social commentary but it is like oil and water, with the result being a disjointed film that barely manages to keep its head above water. Wahlberg puts in the most compelling performance as the older brother who feels he can muscle himself through any situation. Andre Benjamin has a more complex role as he tries to balance his family with the return of his three prodigal brothers, but in the end the four take on the lawless neighborhood like the James gang, cleaning up the Detroit suburb terrorized by a ruthless gangster, while invoking images of their dead mom. Great for teenagers who want something a little more than the usual action flick, but Singleton has yet to recapture the form he exhibited in “Boyz in the Hood. ”

This film was violent to a fault. Yes, in some cities there is a lot of violence, and due to the ineffectiveness of some police forces and the presence of gangs, people take matters into their own hands. But there is SO much about this film that is not at all believable. For example, a long and violent scene where there is an extreme amount of shooting, resulting in multiple deaths. While the police are eventually called to this shooting, those involved seem to not be questioned at all about the events that occurred.
Additionally, there is little actual plot in this movie. Aside from the fact that the viewer can frequently predict when yet another murder is going to take place, there is little that the view hopes to discover over the course of the film.
All members of the mixed gender group I was watching this film with felt that the film was bizarre, confusing, and contained no characterswith which we could sympathize.

I was hoping this would be a good old-fashioned movie of brotherhood and retribution, and while I was not really familiar with any of the actors portraying the four sons, with the exception of Mark Wahlberg, I thought his presence was enough to make the hope realistic. Alas, it was not enough. Wahlberg was good in the role of the oldest son, as were the other “sons”, but the story was confused and confusing, I never really felt the pull of the mother (and I generally am a fan of Fionulla Flanagan), and I found myself losing interest in the whole thing midway through. The basic premise of the story is one that should keep your attention–4 sons avenging the murder of their adoptive mother–but the plot twists were violent without being compelling,they were hard to follow at times, and they didn’t always make a lot of sense even when you could follow them. The scenes of Detroit were suitably gritty and depressing but didn’t seem to relate to the brothers, who didn’t seem to relate all that well to each other. All in all, nothing seemed to gel properly in this film and what should have been engrossing ended up being mostly confusing and a bit tedious.

The Four Brothers crime Drama was the typical shoot and car chase movie that we’ve all become so accustomed to watching. It doesn’t have much of a plot that you can’t guess and the characters are unbelievable. I felt like I saw this same movie a hundred times before and the only difference is that this one was supposed to be set in Detroit (although it seems that the director had no idea what detroit is like). The shooting and car chase scenes were great but I’m from Detroit and the whole vibe of the movie just wasn’t Detroit. The crime here is alot grimier, the streets look different, we talk different, and most importantly we don’t play any type of hockey (come on now,it’s a million black people). I think it’s worth watching if you can ignore the inaccuracies of the writers and directors.
